This elegant crostata is a delightful blend of sweet and tart. Filled with a luscious apple filling and topped with a sprinkle of sugar. It's the perfect dessert for any occasion.
Ingredients
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but cold (follow package instructions)
2 pounds of Granny Smith apples, peeled, sliced thick
¼ cup granulated white sugar
1 tablespoon of butter
1 egg white, lightly beaten
Flour, for preparation
-
¼ cup of Once Again Almond Butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degreed F. In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, add apples, sugar and butter. Cover and cook until apples are soft, about 5 minutes. Remove lid and continue cooking while mixing. Apples will break apart and the apple juice will form a thin syrup in the pan. Add almond butter and mix well while on medium-low heat. Turn heat off and let cool to room temperature.
In a floured surface, open puff pastry and roll into a rectangle. About 10x16 inches. Transfer it to a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Then spread cooked apples over pastry leaving about a 2-inch border so you can fold them up over the apples. Brush pastry border with egg white and sprinkle a little extra sugar if you would like. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the border is golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream!
